How to choose the right injectable

Neurotoxins and dermal fillers are used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines without undergoing surgery. These procedures are typically fast and easy, but it’s extremely important to educate yourself about the different types of injectables before making a decision. There can be side effects like bruising, swelling and skin discoloration after receiving an injectable; it’s essential to know which product is best for you and your skin. At Aesthetica we offer various injectables and dermal fillers in order to suit individual skin concerns:

Neurotoxins

When you laugh, frown, concentrate, or squint you cause creases and lines in your skin. As you age, your skin loses elasticity and those creases deepen and become permanent wrinkles. These wrinkles and frown lines can be very noticeable at a relatively young age, but Dysport and Botox can smooth those lines.

Botox

Botox is a simple and highly popular treatment that will temporarily smooth even the most severe lines, like those between the eyebrows, for a smooth and youthful look. Although Botox does temporarily paralyze the muscles into which it is injected, it does not affect any sensational nerves. Each treatment is done with a fine-point needle and typically lasts three to four months before another appointment is needed. Botox can cause issues when injected into the wrong location, so it’s important to consult with a professional.

Dysport

Another well-known form of botulinum toxin is Dysport. Dysport contains mostly the same materials as Botox. Dysport is an effective, non-invasive treatment for relaxing facial muscles and temporarily preventing the contraction of these muscles. Dysport is known to take effect more quickly than Botox, but overall duration of the two is the same (3 to 4 months).

Dermal Fillers

For those areas that neurotoxins cannot help, like nasio-labial folds, under the eyes and cheeks, there are a number of injectables known as dermal fillers that can help with those deep wrinkles and lines. For instance, Voluma and Radiesse are also effective at restoring fullness in the face.

Juvéderm Ultra Plus

Juvederm Ultra Plustemporarily adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face. Most patients need only one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing; this treatment can last for up to a year. Juvederm may be used to rejuvenate multiple problem wrinkle and fold areas. This injectable is long lasting, comfortable, safe for different skin types, and comes in two different formulations in order to better serve individuals’ needs. Additionally, Juvederm is the only dermal filler FDA approved for lip augmentation.

Juvederm Voluma XC

Juvederm Voluma XC is an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler to instantly add volume to the cheek area. Other Juvederm fillers smooth wrinkles and lines but this product gives subtle lift and restores contour and a more youthful profile for up to two years. You are able to return to your normal activities 24 hours after receiving the injection and the side effects are moderate (bruising, itching, swelling) and will generally last up to two weeks.

Radiesse

Radiesse is another dermal filler for facial contouring and augmentation by immediately adding volume to correct, and beautify facial features. Its patented microsphere technology continues to work over time as it stimulates the body’s production of new collagen for a soft, natural look that lasts. This filler is clinically proven to have lasting effects for up to a year. Treatment results last up to a year or more for many patients. Individual results may vary, depending on age, skin type, lifestyle, and metabolic rate.

Restylane

Restylane, like Juvederm and others, is made from hyaluronic acid, When injected the hyaluronic acid molecules bind to the body’s natural stores of water, gradually “plumping up” the skin – this gives it a smoother and more youthful appearance. Restylane is very effective at improving the appearance of wrinkles and creases around the mouth and lips, as well as those under and around the eyes.

Restylane Silk

To address the lips and the lines around the mouth Restylane Silk, is an FDA approved hyaluronic acid that effectively addresses the signs of aging. This often results in lip thinning, lost shape and an increase in vertical lines above the lip. Restylane Silk is specifically used to provide natural-looking results in these particular areas by utilizing smaller smoother particles than other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers.

Belotero

Belotero is designed to integrate into your skin and mold to your own unique facial contours by softening lines and wrinklesunder the eyes and around the mouth. This product’s distinctive properties allow it to adapt within the skin for soft and even correction. Belotero is soft enough to treat more delicate areas such as vertical lip lines and under the eyes. Belotero typically has a 3 month duration.
