Can You Have the Perfect Breast?
Researchers leading the study showed a variety of photos of women’s breasts to participants. Based on the ratio of upper to lower pole of the breast, participants ranked the images in order of their liking. The most popular choice of 45:55 essentially means that 45 percent of the breast would be above the nipple and 55 percent below the nipple.
More than 1,300 respondents took part in the study and included women, men and plastic surgeons. Each group sided with the 45:55 breasts as most attractive. This ratio was favored by 87 percent of women in their thirties, 90 percent of men and 94 percent of plastic surgeons.
This information will be hugely beneficial for plastic surgeons specializing in breast procedures. The researchers have confidence that the 45:55 ratio can serve as a model for breast augmentations, breast lifts, breast reductions and breast reconstructions.
“The study provides a great place to start with patients wanting more attractive breasts,” says Provo plastic surgeon Dr. Kimball Crofts.
However, Dr. Crofts emphasizes that while 45:55 may be considered the ‘perfect’ breast moving forward, it’s not necessarily a one-size-fits-all mentality.
“What may be most beneficial and aesthetically pleasing to one patient may not be for another,” explains Dr. Crofts. “We always work to provide patients with an individualized experience that offers the best investment for them.”
